Several years ago in 2008, God impressed on my heart the words and music to a song based on Psalm 23. Although we usually read the English Standard Version of the Bible, our family chose to memorize this chapter from the New Living Translation. As I read this familiar psalm in the NLT, the rich truths and personal nature of God nearly jumped off the page. That night this song was born.
Then in 2009, I had the privilege of being part of a worship project with a group of amazing ladies in Colorado called Women's Worship Fellowship (WWF). Since I was in Japan, the WWF ladies performed "Right Here" in my stead, with two main vocalists and a group of women singing the chorus. The Body of Christ working hand in hand can surely transform a song into something far more beautiful than what one person can do! What a privilege it was to be part of this project--my socks were absolutely blessed off. Our project leader walked each of us through the copyright process, which was a fun experience. The song even has a CCLI number.
There are 2 versions of the song--the chord chart for the WWF version and my original version, below.
Here are the lyrics to the original version which I sing:
Right Here
Your peaceful, quiet streams I don’t have to leave
No place compares to this -- Your meadow so green
You renew my strength
I have all I need
Why would I ever leave?
I walk through the darkest valley, and I’m not afraid
I am protected here for You make me safe
On these paths with You
You prove Your name true
Why would I ever leave?
Though lies are all about me I have peace
Enemies are silenced as they watch me feast
You are pouring out
My cup overflows
Why would I ever leave?
Chorus
And I know goodness and love will keep chasing me down as long as I live (x2)
By Your stream
In Your meadow
On Your path
At Your table
Right Here
In Your Presence Divine (x2)
Right Here is where I’ll stay
You can listen for free to the WWF version of Right Here on Spotify (an amazing and free music listening application for download--imagine a music version of the Library of Congress online that catalogues almost every artist and song, accessible for listening to for free on our computer--worship music included!). Just search for the album: "Women's Worship Fellowship Two." It is also available for purchase from CD Baby for $.99. The entire song can also be found online at the bottom of a post that was written about me after the big Japan earthquake in 2011. Shortly after the CD came out, I was encouraged to learn that a fellow songwriter/worship leader on the album shared it at her Nashville church. They sang Right Here during their Sunday worship and she sent me a copy of the recording! How cool that was to receive!
My prayer is that the wonderful Lord Jesus will breathe H i s l i f e and p e a c e to your soul as you rest in His green pastures ... drink from His streams … even while walking through the valley of death's shadow--because your hand is in His and your eyes are on His face.
